As you all know, I’m a guy who always responds favourably to music produced with passion. Jonny Boston has a great gift, and doesn’t hold back in

expressing his powerful and honest faith, in words and music.

Jonny studied at Leeds College of Music, along with James Evans. On returning to London, he was found by Phil Mason busking on the underground, at a time when Max Collie was looking for a clarinettist. He toured with us for a few years, and, when Phil formed his own band, Jonny was a founder- member. He spread his wings and took flight during this period, and it was great to hear him developing into a unique voice. Since discovering his spirituality, he has been soaring like an eagle. He now resides in Amsterdam, and this CD is his latest venture.

It’s packed with beautiful songs, including two original compositions. Together with the other guys he succeeds in making intimate and joyful sounds. They are a tight unit, all being sympathetic to the message put across by Jonny’s vocals, reminding me of Chet Baker, and his rich tenor splashes. Mark van der Feen flows well on piano. Mauritz den Hollander and Tom Nieuwenhuijse play solid supporting roles. It’s all well packaged and the sound quality is excellent.

This CD is a very special and personal statement made by a fine quartet, lead by a very special musician expressing a very special faith. Well done Jonny and the Jazzuits. Get a copy, enjoy the music and listen to the powerful message.
